Five on Friday : A long week

We continue with the illness in our house this week. This time, it's really just me down for the count. But I am down.for.the.count. I actually thought I felt better and then... WHAM. So a quick five things this week...  In fact, it's only going to be four since that's all I got. Some weeks are just like that...

1. I went to a "plant party" this past week. (This would be when I thought I was past the sickness.) We made succulent terrariums... and it was a BLAST. If you know me, you know I have one of the blackest thumbs around, so this was a big step for me to undertake the actual event... and now the raising of the plants. But, succulents seem to be able to take a lot of neglect before they die... so maybe there is hope for me and my adorable creation. I'm in love with what I created, and I really enjoyed learning about terrariums and succulents. Of course, now I want to do another plant party... but I need to keep this one alive first.

 2. I'm making a very concerted effort this year to focus more on activities that bring me joy. One of these activities is all things fabric and quilting. (I'm sure many of you are not shocked by this.) At the end of last year, I joined my local Modern Quilt Guild. (Which I love!) This year, I've linked up with a Finish-A-Long group for the quarter (I still need to add the button to my sidebar!) and I joined a Mystery Quilt Along that starts in February. I also jumped into the 2017 Mighty Lucky Quilting Club. Each month, a quilting pro provides a challenge to work through that focuses on the design process in the quiltmaking field. How perfect is that?! This month, Amy Friend leads us through a challenge to create a block from architectural inspiration. I had a ton of fun with this one and could share way too many images with way too many quilt block interpretations. Maybe in another post. But here's my favorite one so far...  From photo to block design to execution:

I would actually love to make a whole quilt of blocks in all different colors, grouped into fours. Kind of like this... then repeated again and again in different color ways to make a large, bright, funky quilt!

3. While I spent lots of time pursuing creative adventures this week, I didn't spend much time cleaning. (Who wants to clean when they feel under the weather?! I chose to spend that time napping instead.) That means this weekend is going to be chock full of cleaning, laundry, and grocery shopping. NOT my preferred way to spend the weekend... but it's also supposed to be 50 tomorrow which is warm enough to maybe crack the windows for a bit and get the house free of germs. I hope! And I should really, really tackle the Christmas decor still hanging around. Sigh.

4. The boys started swimming this week at school. (It was supposed to start the first Friday back... but that didn't happen due to a broken heater.) They look forward to this every year, and it's a fabulous way to pass the winter months when gym class can't be outside. Spencer passed the assessment test and has graduated into the deep end, much to his delight. (He's been hoping for this so badly.) This means that he's getting more formalized instructions and will learn how to dive in the next few weeks. Milo is still too young to take the assessment... but took great pleasure in touching bottom during his time in the pool. *I* am taking great enjoyment from the fact that they should both crash hard tonight.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
