As some of you may know... my sister was expecting twin boys in February. So, it kind of went without saying that I would make SOMETHING for them... right?! (And I did. Last year. And never blogged about it. Moving on...) I also knew I wanted to make them quilts for their room. When my sister chose a "woodland" theme... I went full steam ahead looking for fabrics and patterns. I thought I had a pretty good plan in place. (I even snuck some fabric with me when we were there on Columbus Day weekend to confirm it worked with the paint color that they already had in the room!) And then I saw what they chose for the valance fabric. And plans changed.
BUT... I think that these came out much cuter than the original ones I had planned! And one can really never have too much fabric stashed away... right?! (Don't worry... I will make the originally planned quilts too. Someday.) I also love the serendipitous timing of all of this. My sister sent me the picture of her fabric about five to six weeks before her due date. (I think.) That week, I saw an inspiration quilt on my feed from Daydreams of Quilts. And whaddya know?! They came together perfectly!
Going in, I knew I wanted them to coordinate, but not necessarily match. Well, again... plans changed. I couldn't find the valance fabric at the first two JoAnn's I tried, but did find a coordinating print. So I grabbed what was left of that. When I discovered the valance fabric eventually, there was only a yard and a half left. (EEK) So... the quilts match BUT the backs are different! That counts for something... no?!
I'm giddy about how these came out. Not only because of the fabric and the pattern... but also because I quilted these MYSELF (that's still a big deal to me) using a new walking foot. This walking foot seriously changed my life! I've been so frustrated with my quilting abilities here... and it turns out it wasn't all me (although some of it is most definitely learning curve), it was also my walking foot! Add in a new basting process and I am a happy, happy girl. (I'm also super giddy about that binding!)
Hopefully my new twin nephews are equally as happy!
