Snapshot #17 : Sink or Swim

It's funny... the last time I did a snapshot post it was early May and 80 degrees. This past week—early June—it was rainy with highs in the 40s. Crazy weather.

It's been a while since I've been around these parts. It's been a long few weeks... lets see if I can catch us up though.

I am...

Thinking:  About my grandmother, who passed away on May 26th... six days shy of her 90th birthday. She was ready to go, and in many ways it was a blessing. Yet... I'm still shocked and surprised by her passing. And much, much sadder than I thought I would be. My reactions are not logical, yet here we are. Her viewings and funeral were paired with the memorial for my uncle, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year. That's just a lot for one weekend. It's made me reflect a lot on what exactly I want to accomplish with however much time I have left here on this earth.

One day, I may devote a whole post to my Omi, the boys' Gigi. Or I may keep her all to myself. For now, I try to remember she's exactly where she so wanted to be. Back with my grandfather who left us much too early, over three decades ago.

This photo is from 2 years ago... but it's how I'll always remember her.

Thankful for: Two VERY well-behaved boys at the memorial and viewing. One boy had to be removed from the memorial for a little "scream-it-out" session in the car... but (for the most part) both were respectful and charming. I'm also super thankful we invested in Apple*Care for my iPhone when we bought it. I threw it in a puddle last weekend and fried it. Luckily, it was covered. WHEW.

Wondering:  About how this summer will go, what to gift the boys for their birthdays, and if I should do another load of laundry today. (Not in that particular order)

Trying:  To get my mind wrapped around the boy's birthdays. Uhm, Milo's is Friday and I've done NOTHING for it. I've *thought* about it... but haven't actually done anything for it. Egad. Three weeks later, it's Spencer's birthday. And again, I've done nothing for it.  This morning we at least nailed down Milo's "friends" party and started on Spencer's. But still. I'm normally DONE planning at the two week and four week mark. I guess this is life with two?

Buying:  I can't even tell you because I'm too busy being scared for the credit card bill. Let's just say that I'm an emotional shopper.

Cooking: Pasta and Sauce. It's Sunday, we were out all day... and I'm tired.

Snacking on:  "Toasty" flavored Cheez-its. It's ridiculous how those just magically disappear here...

Drinking:  Water right now. But tonight? A big glass of wine.

Pinning: Christmas quilt ideas (for a swap I'm participating in), birthday ideas, and... that's it. It's plenty though. I should be pinning more vegan recipe ideas though.

Crafting: While I haven't spent a lot of time here on my blog... I have spent a ton of time at my sewing machine! I'll be posting some finishes this week... but for now, I photo of a current WIP I lllooovveee (big thanks to Carla for posting about it!):

Reading:  The last book in "The Paper Magicians" ("The Master Magician") series. Next up is the new Judy Blume, "In the Unlikely Event," and "The Heir" by Kiera Cass.

Watching:  I'm in a binge-watching mood, but have no idea what to marathon through right now. Tough times people, tough times. Hulu will have the complete Seinfeld series up at the end of the month, and since I never watched that when the rest of the world did, maybe I will just wait for that...

Playing:  With paper piecing. When my paternal grandfather passed away, I taught myself to knit. It seemed fitting that when my maternal grandmother passed away I take up a new hobby as well. So I now find myself covered in scraps of fabric and paper hexagons.

Listening to: "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon. It's a popular request here. Not the best language (obviously) ... but the beat is great!

Discovering:  How entrepreneurial Spencer is. First, the lemonade stand... now plans to be the next Roy Choi and have his own food truck when he grows up. This was his final project of the year, and he worked so, so hard on it. The assignment was to choose an inspirational person (past or present) and create a biographical poster about their life. They needed to include a timeline and a representation of the person. I drew an outline of a food truck for him... and that's about it. I had to help him with the computer stuff... but he knew exactly what he wanted to do.

Enjoying:   How much warmer weather wears the boys out! :)

Hoping:  For a good summer.

Celebrating: A LOT! I turned forty two weeks ago, Milo turns THREE on Friday, and school ends on the same day! Lots of things to balance out the sadness. (And yes, I am happy about forty. No one believes me when I tell them... so I must be doing ok. That, or I'm less mature than I thought.)

Considering:  Way too many heavy and "big" things to sully a post with right now.

Starting:  To mentally preparing for Summer Vacation. Five more days left of school. Five. More. Days. (I'm not sure who is more ready for this year to end!)

Finishing:  The final prep before a new business venture goes live. I'll blog about it here soon... but for now my brain is pinging around in a million directions. I'm equal parts nervous and excited.

Future Plans I'm excited for:  EVERYTHING! The business venture, the end of school, Milo's birthday, a day with dinosaurs to celebrate it all...

Kid Funnies:

Spencer: This has been a hard few weeks for him. And the downside is that... well... he's just not been very funny. I'm sure he's had funny moments... but they've been lost in the worries I have swirling about how he's doing overall.

Milo:  At my parent's house last weekend... he wanted a snack. My dad brought him over to the snack cabinet and showed him his options. He picked "sun chips" out and happily sat down at the table with a bowl. After a few bites, he pushed them away and stood up... all the time waving his hands in front of him in the universal "no" gesture. When asked if he was done, he pointed to the chips and said "Chips. Bad. Bad Chips! Bad Chips!" Since I don't think he's ever left a snack behind, he clearly wasn't a fan! I think that he saw the picture on the bag and thought he was going to score himself some wavy lays. Sadly, this was not the case.

I really need to do a photo dump one day soon. But for now...

Three favorite photos from the past week(s):

Taken after a particularly bad day for him at school... but I still love this shot.

Waiting for dessert... {I've been trying to "shoot from the hip" more, play more... Have fun. Sometimes I get weird little gems I love.}

At a "Touch a Truck" event. And again, playing with angles... and not being as concerned with getting "the perfect shot."
