Snapshot #5

{aka "Thoughts on Thursday"} It's hard to believe it's been almost a year since my last "Snapshot" post. I'm trying to get back in the writing groove though, and I feel this is the best way to do it. So, here we go...

Outside my window: It's a chilly 48 degrees. It feels like Fall is most definitely in the air.... and I. Love. It.

I am thinking: About how to make the whole "transition to school" thing more tolerable. I know we are only in week two... but man, it's challenging/stressful/upsetting. The anxiety that Spencer holds in that little body will do me in. And I know he's fine while he's there... but once he's not... KABOOM! (And don't even get me started on the nightmares that he's been having. I'm tired.)

I am thankful for: Finding a part-time child care solution for Milo. It's only four hours a week right now... but four hours of uninterrupted, daytime work will feel amazing.

I am wondering: If it's too soon to start thinking about Christmas. I've already started my shopping... and my crafting. Maybe I should think about Halloween first?!

Last 3 purchases: These boots, a pumpkin peacoat, and ... you know, I think that's all I've purchased recently. (Because groceries don't count)

Dinner plans: Leftovers. I made this Beef Stroganoff (sans sour cream) last night and it's making a repeat appearance tonight. (In case you were wondering... it was really good!) Tomorrow we are making a Chicken Avocado pizza. Spencer is beside himself with anticipation over making the crust.

Future plans I'm looking forward to: Uhm... I don't know?! Life is so busy and hectic right now that I'm actually looking forward to a day with no plans.

Kid funny: There's a few that have cracked me up recently... So many that I need to do a whole "Spencer says" post. But in the meantime, one that pays tribute to the back-to-school season.

"So... First I go to Montessori. Then I go to high school. What comes after high school?? {a few moments pass} Oh, I know!! Jail!!!!"

And Milo isn't really verbal enough to have funnies yet. (Although he does manage to create some pretty hysterical-to-us situations for himself... there is a reason we call him "The Korean Chris Farley") But the one that gets me every.time. is this:

Milo is a slow waker-upper. So we often hear him puttering around in his room for a while before we go to get him. (this is the complete opposite from Spencer) Most times, we open the door when he's ready. But sometimes we wait too long... and then we hear, very clearly, "GET. UP." Usually spoken to the video monitor. Just another example of how he is a man who knows what he wants.

I am reading: "Just One Day" by Gayle Forman. I recently finished "Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes. Both are very, very good.

In the kitchen: It's a mess. I don't want to talk about it.

Watching: Outlander. Again, and again, and again. The wedding episode is this weekend and I'm pretty much giddy with anticipation.

On my frequent playlist: "All About That Bass" by Meghan Trainor, "Girls Chase Boys" by Ingrid Michaelson, "Really Don't Care" by Demi Lovato and "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift. All chosen with the help of Spencer... can you tell?!

Snacking on: Boom Chicka Pop. I'm craving the bacon, egg and cheese on sourdough with an avocado and spinach salad on the side. It's the special from a local cafe... but that's not going to happen today. And in case you are wondering, the Boom Chick Pop is not filling that craving. Maybe I'll whip up an omelet after this post?

Rest-of-the-day-plans: Work, a trip to the post office, and a stop by the farm stand. Maybe some crafting. Or maybe some browsing at TJ Maxx. It's gorgeous, so we need to get out for at least a little bit. So what I should really say is a hike through the woods, or something that takes advantage of this weather... but, no.

And because we cannot have a post without photos... Here's a few snapshots of our mini golf outing a few weeks ago. I'm really, really not sure what I was thinking when I gave the generally angry toddler a metal stick. But we all survived and only suffered a few bruises...
