On Sunday evening, Christine and I made a rare appearance in the wild sans Spencer to attend a screening of “Somewhere Between,” a documentary film that follows the lives of four young women adopted from China as they explore issues of identity during their early teenage years. Here’s the trailer for the film:
The screening was followed by a Q&A with director Linda Goldstein Knowlton, herself the mom of a Chinese adoptee, as well as Haley Butler and Fang Lee, two of the young women from the firm. The film was very moving and thought-provoking, as was the dialogue between the filmmakers and audience, which had a high concentration of adoptive parents.
While we are not yet at the point where Spencer is asking in-depth questions about his birth parents, everything moves in fast-forward with our boy, so it’s a good topic for us to get our heads around ahead of time.
If you would like to see “Somewhere Between” yourself, there are a couple of different ways:
- Visit the “Somewhere Between” website for a list of screenings.
- Use Tugg.com to organize a screening in your area.
