Tales & Tidbits from Spencerland

spencer-magnifying

Every morning, I wake to the pitter-patter of little feet running into our room. This is quickly followed with a "Gooood MORnin'!" as Spencer climbs into bed with me. Unfortunately, this has been occurring in the 4:30am - 5:00am range lately. And he's only climbing in bed to make it easier to roust me. Doug suggested we show him the intro to "Good Morning Vietnam" for inspiration. I'm not sure I could handle that sort of greeting that early in the morning though. (I also hear this phrase when Spencer is fighting bedtime or nap time and it's not nearly as cute then. Sigh.)

School continues to go well. This week, Spencer insisted on walking in by himself. Upon entering, he announced at the top of his lungs, "I'm Heeeeere! Let's Play!" All right then. We've also had our first day where Spencer told me that he needed "more minutes" when I arrived, complete with index finger "one minute" gesture. I loved it.

In addition to "Amp Wock" we've added "Hi Hi My School" {High School Musical} to our video rotation. I really do have a tween here. We also have "Elf" and "The Night Before Christmas" in the mix though since Spencer isn't ready to let go of the holiday yet. (And yes, he's still asking Santa for things.)

I may also have a future hip-hop star on my hands.

Spencerism: "Outta Dare!" {As is : "Get out of there!"} Spencer likes to stick his nose in various places, and sniff/inhale long and hard, while "shaking" his head back and forth slowly. Then he smiles and says "Outta Dare!" and removes his nose/face. This often happens with my coffee, dinner, and the trash. The last one is what kills me, and often gags him.

On the few occasions that Spencer isn't restricted to the stroller for dog walks, he likes to follow behind Roxy and sniff the snow as well, sometimes pausing to pretend to "do bizzy-ness like doodles." We make quite the scene, trust me.

Spencer is obsessed with yogurt squeezers lately. I think it's because he learned how to get the very last drop out.

Spencerism: "GUH-PRISE!" {SURPRISE!} Used when "surprising" someone, used when being surprised by an action (like when the balloon popped and scared the bee-jezus out of him), used when caught doing something he shouldn't be doing (like methodically emptying his dresser drawers during nap).

Spencer has discovered (egg-free) batter:

You may notice that Spencer has some Doritos in those shots. Or, "fire chips" as he calls them. Every so often, I'll let Spencer pick out a bag of chips at the market (think once in a Blue Moon) and he always picks the Doritos. He paces up and down the aisle until he spies them. He savors them, and can make a bag last for a loooong time. Unless Doug discovers them. A few weeks ago, Spencer had a bag that was in the snack cabinet. At snack time, he ran over... intent on having "fire chips" for his treat. He pulled out a practically empty bag that had been full 24 hours prior. He looked at it for a few beats, then looked at me, put one hand palm up and exclaimed "Happened?!" I responded that "Dada happened." Spencer's response?! "oh. spencer sad." He now keeps his fire chips in an undisclosed location.

Spencerism: "SPICY!" or "piiiieeee-ceeeee" {spicy!} Spencer loves food with a kick. Mostly, because he can declare "Spicy!" after every single bite. He's determined we don't have enough spicy food in the house, so that term now applies to anything that has a strong "taste" to it. Spicy, sweet, tart. And it must be done while squinting the eyes up.

That's all folks - hope you have a great weekend!
