It's a Brand New Year!

c-n-tree

I'm not really one for New Year's resolutions. In fact, I'm sure it's been several years since I made them. At the very least, it's been several years since I followed through on them. That said, I think it's time. Time to outline some areas where "I could do better" and then hold myself accountable. At the same time, I'd also like to focus on some areas where I'd like to do better. I guess you could call those goals, huh? Well, I'm going with the term "Improvements." I saw that used by a blog buddy and it really hit home. Regardless of whether I want to do these things, need to do these things, or strive to do these things... they all fall into the category of improvements. Improvements to my life, my happiness, my soul. And yes, it's a little weird to be putting this all out there on the family blog, but really... it's gotta go somewhere. So here it is. [deep breath] And, here we go:

My list of Improvements for 2011

1. E-mail Management. Right now, I have over 200 emails that require action on my part. It's actually embarrassing to type this. Getting my email inbox(es) under control and keeping them there has been a battle for me for quite some time. Literally years. This is going to be the year I win. It may require declaring email bankruptcy, but I'm committed to getting my email communication back in check. (This will also be the year I figure out if it's "e-mail" or "email")

2. Blog - On Time. I know I've talked about this before... but I need to be more on top of blogging in a timely fashion. I've thought long and hard about this, and I've decided it's really important to me. I need to catch up on old events that are important for me to get down in writing, and then keep on top of the blogging. That's going to mean that some events show up as "Event XYZ, in photos," but that's ok. It's better than the stress and guilt and disappointment I feel currently. And this one has a reward. When I catch up, I'm finally blurbing the first years of the blog. This segways nicely into...

3. A Photo a Day. Don't worry, I don't plan on posting every day. (That's just crazy talk!) But I do want to take a photo everyday. I've now done two photo "classes" that were of an inspirational nature. I'd find daily prompts in my email, and found that it inspired/encouraged me to carve out some creative time every day. Now granted, there were several times I had to play "catch up" (or I totally mailed it in and used Spencer as my subject...) but I found that overall I felt better about my creativity, and myself during those classes. At this point, I'm not sure if Spencer is going to be the focus (shocker!) or if I'm going to keep it more artistic. I also don't know if I'll post on a weekly basis like some of you have (which I know is technically a project 52) or if I'll only share the occasional photo. Speaking of photography...

4. Focus on Photography. This is really "3b" and not "4" ... but whatev. I need to step up the photography and editing skills. Big time. No, really. I'm not sure if I will be doing this through classes, or independently, but I desire better photos. (And now that I'm actually kinda-sorta doing it on the side... I NEED better photos).

5. Get My Business [really] Going. Enough said. I have a lot of thoughts and ideas about how to accomplish that... but that's for another day.

6. Laugh More. I'm not the type of person who resolves to lose weight, work out, or stress less. (although I could benefit from all of those things) But I could use more laughter in my life. And you know what?! My kiddo is really funny! So I have no excuse. That said, he's probably my only source of entertainment some days... so I'm all ears if you have some laugh-out-loud suggestions. I can't remember the last time I laughed until it hurt... and I miss that.

7. Get Into The Kitchen. I recently realized that I really like food. I mean really like it. The past year, I became very adept at cooking several Korean dishes, but that's it. I'd like to expand my repertoire and mix it up a bit. Now, I'm not talking about anything crazy like Julie & Julia... but I'd like to try a new dish once a week. A real dish. Not just different pizza toppings.

8. Organize My Life. Seriously. And get rid of the clutter to boot.

So there you have it. I feel like I'm missing one or two [blaringly obvious] items, but I think it's a pretty good starting point. Now, all I need to do is execute. That shouldn't be hard at all... right?!

{Wow. I really did it. And I don't even feel sick over it.... yet.}

Do you have any resolutions improvements outlined for 2011 yet?
