The "Pun-can" Patch

It's that time of year again... time for the "obligatory" PPP. {That means "pumpkin patch post" as my friend JoJo informed me.} I posted this teaser shot a couple of weeks ago with the best intentions to post shortly thereafter, but time just seems to fly by lately, and this is the first opportunity I've had to sit down and write a "proper" PPP. So here we go. (And yes, I'm making up for my lapse by posting way more photos than you care to see.) Some of you may remember Spencer's first trip to the pumpkin patch last year (look at how little he was!) We went back to the same "pun-can PATCH" as last year, and it was nice for us to reminisce throughout the day. Please indulge me as I "flashback" here and there...

So, just like last year...

P-Patch

It's off to the patch!

Last year, Spencer was more than willing to sit in the wagon and be pulled to the patch:

This year:

P-Patch-2

Someone...

P-Patch-3

had to do it "ALL. BY. SELF."

P-Patch-4

Even if the wagon was really "Heh-bee" (heavy)

P-Patch-5

{Patch!}

P-Patch-9

"I see pun-cans!"

P-Patch-6

"I have no idea what Mama & Dada mean by 'I should watch where I am going...'"

P-Patch-7

"Oh. That."

P-Patch-10

"OK, people... the great pun-can is here somewhere... let's find it!"

P-Patch-11

Mama set to work picking pumpkins...

P-Patch-12

While Spencer picked rocks.

P-Patch-13

Seriously.

P-Patch-15

After a few minutes, this happened.

Turns out, Spencer kept tripping over the dried out vines. He determined his pants were to blame for all the troubles... so he decided to remove them.

P-Patch-14

"Can I get a hand here?!"

P-Patch-18

"Just one more rock, then I'll get serious about this pun-can picking!"

P-Patch-19

"Oooo, here's a good one!"

P-Patch-20

"I found one guys!"

P-Patch-21

"And in it goes!"

{Please note that the pumpkin was chucked into the wagon...}

P-Patch-22

"No Mama, I don't want that one... I want this one!"

P-Patch-23

"I'm taking it... even if it is lopsided!"

P-Patch-24

"Mama said 'gently' ... I'm not sure I know what that means..."

P-Patch-25

The Great Pumpkin Debate

P-Patch-26

"We're on a roll now!"

P-Patch-27

"OK Mama, you clear a spot, and I'll put it in... gently."

P-Patch-28

"Or not."

P-Patch-29

"I don't care that you got adorable photos of me in the wagon...

... last year."

P-Patch-33

"This year, I don't plan to co-operate!"

P-Patch-30

"OK, we got our pun-cans..."

P-Patch-32

"Let's Go!"

P-Patch-31

"Geez, and I thought it was heavy before?!"

P-Patch-34

"Mama, aren't you glad you have my help?!"

P-Patch-36

Then I thought it would be cool to take Spencer's photo with one of these cool wood carvings...

P-Patch-35

Spencer had other thoughts.

P-Patch-38

Next up...

P-Patch-39

Feeding the cows!

P-Patch-40

Guess who screamed "NO!" repeatedly, even though this was his idea, and guess who fed the cows?!

P-Patch-41

Hello, beautiful

P-Patch-43

And finally...

P-Patch-42

It was time for the hayride! {Please note that Spencer is saying "YAAAAY!" and clapping here...}

P-Patch-44

We drove through fields (see the patch?!)

P-Patch-51

P-Patch-45

And through dairy barns...

P-Patch-46

...Spencer was captivated...

P-Patch-47

...by all the cows. Captivated.

P-Patch-48

We saw a lot of this...

P-Patch-49

... and this...

P-Patch-50

... and this.

P-Patch-52

This photo is blurry, but I love it!

P-Patch-53

We think hayrides are tons o' fun! Can you tell?!

P-Patch-54

All too soon, it was "alllll done."

P-Patch-55

We stopped by the cow barrel train...

go-train-go

... just like last year...

P-Patch-56

...and, once again, it did not go.

P-Patch-57

Just as we were leaving, Spencer decided he could be brave enough to see the cows.

P-Patch-58

And opted for brushing them this time.

P-Patch-59

Success!

P-Patch-37

Moments after we got in the car, and midway through a cookie... this happened. Again, Success!

I think this face says it all:

Spencer had a blast at the pumpkin patch. A blast. Almost three weeks later, he's still talking about it on a daily basis. In incredible detail. I had hoped to take Spencer for another hayride as one of our "school is cool" afternoon outings, but they seem to only run on weekends. Unfortunately, I told him before confirming that... and made the rookie mom mistake of talking it up to him. And telling his teachers so that they could talk it up to him when he got upset. So guess who's going on as many hayrides as he wants this weekend?! Seriously. He loved it that much! (And was that upset when he didn't get to go. It was heartbreaking to hear him repeatedly ask for it, then ask why he couldn't go. There was a lot of "sad" mixed in as well... heartbreaking. Just heartbreaking.) He was actually offered a trip to another cool event (complete with choo-choos!) over this, and he opted for the pumpkin patch/hayride weekend... without so much as a pause. I love that.... it's so fun to see him really enjoy an experience, and appreciate what a special treat it is... and talk about doing it again. And ask to do it again. (Even if he does ask about 1,000,000 times a day.) I'm really not sure who's more excited for "pumpkin patch 2.0" ... him, or me?!
