Wordy B&W Wednesday : My First Baby

Roxy, aka "The Doodles," was our "first baby." She came to us in 2003, the day after we returned from our honeymoon, which was also my birthday. I think Doug knew when I made an appointment at the rescue "just to explore our options" that there was a pretty good chance we were coming home with a new member of the family. Ironically, Roxy was not the dog we had our eye on. She didn't even really register with us when we looked at the "Available Dogs" on the rescue's website. But once we met her at the shelter it was a done deal. Even after the woman working there said "Well, you certainly wouldn't be my first choice." She was, and always has been, our first choice. Everyone kept telling me "just wait until your child comes home... you'll be singing a different tune." And you know what?? I am. But not the tune everyone was expecting. I don't know if it's possible, but I think I love her even more now. I look forward to nap time and bed time for Spencer so that I can get my cuddles in with her. I treasure it even more when she sneaks up onto my bed when Doug is traveling. I love when the opportunity arises to go out on a walk "just the two of us." Yeah, she's had to play second fiddle a lot... and yeah, she doesn't get as much attention as she used too... but she's still my first baby, and I can't imagine life without her. Luckily for me, she's [pretty much] rolled with all the punches and loves us just the same as "pre-Spencer."

{I absolutely adore this girl...}
