[I'm pretty impressed with myself... I'm doing awesome cleaning up all my backlog of posts. Of course, I now just jinxed it. Are you all tired of me yet?!] It's pretty ironic that I am posting these now (finally!) since we've been spending a lot of time in here as of late. All due to Spencer's request. I love that he likes spending time in this room... it means a lot that the space we poured so much love into is one of his favorite places.
One of my favorite stories of our homecoming involves this room. Upon arriving here (we flew into JFK and stayed at my parents in NJ and then drove home the following day... so it had been a LONG journey) we took a tour of our house with Spencer showing him all the rooms. He was very serious and took everything in with such... intensity. He very studiously examined every room (from Doug's arms) as we went through the house. When we entered his room, he looked around, and then broke into the BIGGEST grin we had seen since arriving stateside. And the first smile we had seen since coming home. He *knew* without a doubt it was his room... and seemed to approve. It brought tears to our eyes.
I created this nursery with surprisingly little money. I'm very lucky in that we received a lot of amazing hand-me-downs from friends... and we also were blessed by our friends who cleaned out our registry while we were in Korea! I bought the paint and few other odds and ends... spending maybe a couple hundred dollars. I'm pretty impressed with myself since I don't think the nursery looks cheap at all! It helps that ALL the furniture is second-hand though...
So, enough words - let's get on to the pictures!
[I had trouble getting wide shots... these are the best I could do! The black band is a magnetic chalkboard... you'll see]
[You'll note I still haven't finished the quilt... but I am SO close!]
[Amazing how the crib from one friend matched the changing table from another...]
[Awesome light pendant]
[Airplane bins for under crib storage...]
[Above the crib is a very special series of photos...]
[On one side there is a frame with a symbolic dedication to his first mom, and a photo of him with his foster mom...]
On the other side are pictures of him with mama and dada..]
[And in the center is an adoption cross-stitch from a close family friend, who is also an AP]
[My take on a growth chart...]
[Then there is perhaps the project I am most proud of...]
[A five dollar sheet from big box mart...]
[And a hand-me-down rocking chair...]
[And TADA!!!] [OK, OK so I used a few staples and safety pins too...]
[And then there are the bookshelves...]
[Filled with all sorts of treasures...]
[Including a plane we got in Incheon "just for being cute"...]
[And monkeys from Elizabeth...]
[Nightlights to keep the monsters under the bed...]
[And topped off with a hippo...]
[And our flag from SWS...]
[These days we love to play with the magnetic chalkboard...]
Thanks for taking a peek inside Spencer's room with me!
