Boy Oh Boy - I Love This Boy!

I realized that's it's been a while since I did any sort of "What Spencer's Up To" post. I was going to list 14 things to celebrate his 14th month (since you may have noticed I am horrible with monthly updates) but the more I sat and recorded things I wanted to remember, the longer the list got. So, here's a list of things that Spencer's doing right now, some he's been doing for a while now, some are pretty recent, but all of them make me laugh. Doggies We have a big time dog lover here! He cannot get enough. Unfortunately for him, not all dogs feel the same way about him.

*

He has a stuffed doggie that went over to Korea in his care package. He loves this dog. As soon as he sees it, he lights up and points at it and calls for it. As soon as it's in his arms, he gives it a big squeeze and a huuuuuggggeeee kiss. He will carry it around for ten minutes just hugging it, kissing it and smiling. So sweet.

*

He also has a stuffed gorilla that he is convinced is a doggie as well. We're working on that.

*

He and Roxy seem to be getting along much better now. He can't wait for her to come down in the mornings (she's lazy and we often don't see her until late morning). As soon as he hears her collar jingle, he stops, points to the stairs and yells "Doo Doo!" [We call Roxy "Doodles" here, and well... Doo-Doo now too apparently] He also likes to share his food with her, much to her delight and my dismay.

*

There is a Cesar Dog Food commercial that often comes on during Good Morning America. He recognizes the music now and will stop everything to watch. He's even been known to come tearing around the couch in order to catch it. In case you haven't seen it... here it is:

Playtime Activities

Dancing... oh we love to dance. Especially if it's a good tune on. Glee is one of our favorite shows to dance to. We also enjoy pop music... two current faves are "(Say Hey) I Love You" and anything by Lady Ga*ga.

*

Still loves putting things in to buckets and bins, and taking them back out again. Same goes for drawers.

*

He LOVES to play chase around the couch. Loves it. Especially if there is a peek-a-boo surprise mixed in. We've been doing this less lately because my knees simply can't take it!

*

Speaking of Peek-A-Boo... Huge favorite in this house. He's begun instigating it more and more now that we usually have a blanket lying around for him with the weather getting chillier. It's hysterical to see him pick up the blanket, hold it over his head, and start to walk towards you. He usually only makes it a couple of steps before he trips over the blanket and lands on his face! Poor guy. After naps sometimes he'll also want to play. I'll open the door and he'll immediately sit back down, pull the blankie up and start giggling hysterically when I go "Where's Spencer?!"

*

Up until recently, he really hasn't been a fan of the "Ball Popper." In fact, I think he's been scared of it. Now, he can't get enough. Not only does he like to grab the balls off of the air stream, he likes it when the air blows in his face, and just the other day he figured out how to put his mouth over the tube and get it to blow his cheeks out. (yes, I'm trying to get pictures)

*

He's not a big fan of "independent play" - but he is a big fan of "Bring Mama the toy/book we should play with."

*

He often walks backwards... he's been doing this for a while. The new twist is that when he's running away from me and I say "Whoa, back it up buddy" He'll stop. And start literally backing it up.

Other Stuff

Says Buh-Bye. Regularly. Especially if he's done with a place or event. (Sometimes mixed in with "all done") Over the weekend I took Roxy for her walk and Spencer and Dada stayed here. Which resulted in Spencer at the gate crying "MaaaaaaMaaaaa. DooooooDoooooo. BuuuuuhhhhByyyyyyeeee." Not a happy camper.

*

This BOY can spot a truck a mile away and thinks its the best. thing. ever. (Note: Trucks are also called "Dada"s...)

*

Asks for "up" - it's usually more of an "uh" and the arms fully extended up to me.

*

Asks for "dat" with the pointing finger of course!

*

One of his highlights of the week is Sky*ping with Dada when he's gone. He'll sometimes point at my laptop and say "Dada" which is really cute... but quickly turns sad when we can't connect with Dada at the moment.

*

Every time the phone rings, Spencer exclaims "DADA!" Every. Single. Time.

*

If we are laughing, so is he. Especially if there is a group. For example, I was outside talking to a several neighbors. We started laughing about something. Spencer looked around the group and then started laughing too. While wearing an expression that said "I have no idea what's so funny, but this sure is silly!"

*

When you happen to have some food that he thinks he would enjoy, he has a no-fail method to get you to share it. If you are at a table, he will lean over as far as possible, lock his eyes on the target, and then give an emphatic "MMMMMmmmmm" If his first attempt doesn't yield results, he repeats until he has a victory. If you happen to be sitting on the couch with a yummy-looking snack, he will come, lean on your knees, stare at desired object and again go "MMMMMmmmmm."If it doesn't work the first time, he slowly begins inching on your lap.

*

Speaking of eating.... when he's all done, and we are wiping his face off, he almost always opens his mouth and sticks out his tongue... as to say "Wipe My Tongue Please" So we do!

*

He brushes his hair and brushes his teeth. Most times we need to repeat the activity for thoroughness... but we're thrilled we can hand him the correct brush and tell him to "brush .... Spencer" and he does!

*

He also will follow simple commands like "Put your books on the table [please]" and "Bring me your shoes/socks/pants please]" "Put your toys away" has no effect yet. [wink]

*

And lastly, he has one very special morning "chore." When we fill up the coffee grinder, he knows it his job to "push the button" to make it start. (Which is really just him hitting the top of the grinder) He's always on top of it and starts saying "button" as soon as he hears the bag of beans. And once he does it, he smiles the biggest, proudest smile!

So that's pretty much what Spencer is up to these days... he sure does keep us laughing!
