September 1st

Today is September 1st. Not only is it Labor Day here in the US, it's also the official expiration of the Memorandum of Understanding between the US and Vietnam. This means that if you are an American family registered in Vietnam, but haven't yet received a referral, you won't. (Why not just cut to the chase right?!) Words can not even express how sad I am, and how heavy my heart is. I'm sad for so many reasons, I don't even know if I can put my reasons into words. What I will say is this. Vietnam is the program that sold our hearts on adoption. It's the confirmation we needed to know this is the path we were meant to take. And in some weird ways, it lead us to Korea... the program and journey I whole-heartedly believe I am supposed to be in and on. For that alone I will always carry a special spot in my heart for this program.

If, or when, it re-opens I hope it can be without all the ugliness that has been surrounding it as of late. Until then...
