Gee, thanks NBC.

***UPDATE: Since I originally posted this, NBC has changed the "Non-Mom" category to "The Adopting Mom." While I hope that this is due to smartening up on their part, I fear that it's due to all the negative publicity and all of the complaints received.*** The internet and the yahoo groups are all a-buzz today. Why, you ask? Well, because NBC has done a very stupid, narrow-minded thing. For their "America's Favorite Mom" show, they have categorized the moms into different categories. In their classification, adoptive mothers are "Non-Moms." Umm, what?! It's not bad enough that every adoptive parent at some point or another will face questions about "real parents" and "real children" from people who don't know any better in places like the supermarket or the bookstore. But to have a major TV conglomerate categorize adoptive moms as second-class citizens is, in my mind, unacceptable. Thanks for setting us back, and reinforcing the thought that we aren't real parents.

Needless to say, I will be boycotting this show. I hope you think twice about watching it as well.

ps - Marie Osmond (aka host of the show), if you are reading this, I really hope you didn't see and approve that category... considering you are an adoptive parent as well.
