Surprise #7: The Only Certainty Is Uncertainty

This the fourth post of the 10-part series: “Top 10 Surprises of the International Adoption Process” The best advice I can give to anyone considering international adoption is to embrace (or, at least, learn to accept) uncertainty. I have been amazed by how fluid the state of adoptions has been in the various countries we have investigated. As we have mentioned previously, choosing a country was no small feat for us, and it was made even further complicated by the fact that the status of programs in specific countries fluctuates on a surprisingly frequent basis. Our heart goes out to the families who get months or even years into adopting from a country they have grown attached to only to run into complications and unexpected delays.
